The Government of India has officially notified the country’s first semiconductor chip fabrication plant at the Dholera Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Gujarat. The project marks a major step towards making India a global semiconductor manufacturing hub.
The semiconductor fabrication plant will be developed by Tata Electronics in partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan. The project is expected to attract large investments and boost the growth of India’s electronics and technology sector.
The chip fabrication facility will be set up in Dholera Smart City and is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. The plant will manufacture semiconductor chips used in automobiles, mobile phones, artificial intelligence, telecom, and other advanced technologies.
Officials said the project would strengthen India’s semiconductor supply chain and reduce dependence on imported chips. The government believes the Dholera semiconductor project will play an important role in the country’s long-term technology and industrial development.
